Despite their remoteness, the Islands are easily accessible by both sea and air transport.

And now we have RET (Road Equivalent Tariff) which has reduced ferry fares by 40%. See CalMac’s website www.calmac.co.uk

Air: There are daily scheduled flights, including Sundays,  by British Airways -  www.britishairways.com 08457 799977,  to Stornoway from London, Birmingham and Manchester via Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Car or van hire available from Mackinnon Self Drive - www.mackinnonselfdrive.co.uk

Stornoway to South Harris is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes by car.

Sea: The toll free bridge from mainland Scotland to the Isle of Skye has greatly improved the road journey to Uig in the north of the Isle of Skye from where" The Hebridean Isles", the Cal-Mac roll on-roll off car ferry sails to Tarbert, Harris. A drive of 20 minutes takes you to Obbe Fishings. The MS "Loch Fortain" car ferry  now connects N.Uist direct to Leverburgh.
